PODCAST: Adam Buxton - “Caring for a parent is a real test”
In the first episode of our brand-new podcast, On the Marie Curie Couch, bereavement expert Jason Davidson meets Adam Buxton.
Comedian, writer and actor Adam Buxton is best-known as one-half of comedy duo Adam & Joe, alongside filmmaker Joe Cornish. In this episode of On the Marie Curie Couch, Jason chats to Adam about his father, Nigel, who died from lung cancer in 2015. Nigel appeared as ‘Bad Dad’ on The Adam & Joe Show in the 1990s.
Content note: discussion of death and grief with reference to themes/topics that might be triggering or upsetting.

Remembering ‘Bad Dad’

“He was an important figure in my life for all sorts of reasons,” says Adam. “He was my dad, but then he reinvented himself as this person who was helping me out professionally with the TV show, and then that reinvigorated our relationship.”

Coping as a carer

In the months leading up to Nigel’s death, he moved into Adam’s home and was cared for by his son.

If you look after a parent or loved one, there’s all sorts of repercussions. Your relationships are tested in ways that you never really considered.
