In the latest episode of On the Marie Curie Couch, bereavement expert Jason Davidson meets Hugh Grant.
British acting legend Hugh Grant is a longstanding Marie Curie supporter who kindly dropped by to chat to our host Jason in this special Great Daffodil Appeal episode of On the Marie Curie Couch. Listen as Hugh opens up about the death of his mother, Finvola, who had pancreatic cancer and was cared for by Marie Curie Nurses.
Choosing the music
“[My mother] was absolutely determined to have certain hymns and certain pieces of music at her funeral, which I gave her, although I did cheat,” says Hugh. “I put in a couple of other pieces which she didn’t want, but which were brilliant. My choices were better than hers is really what I’m saying.”
Distracting yourself
“One of the things that gets one through those first weeks after death is practicalities,” says Hugh. “Organising a funeral is quite helpful.”
It fills your days, thinking about mundane things like ‘What vol-au-vents should we have at the reception?’”
