If you're an executor or solicitor, or simply want to know more about how including a gift works, have a look at the information below.
As an executor or administrator, what do I need to do?
Before you get to paying in a gift, you may find it useful to learn more about some common Will processes and your role in probate and inheritance.
If you want to know about handling any tax on the estate, handling tax if the person who died was widowed, the simpler rules for small estates or receiving an inheritance, please see our practical things you may need to do after someone has died page.
Do I need to tell Marie Curie about my gift in advance?
Wills are personal and it's entirely up to the Will-maker if they wish to share this information. But if they do choose to tell us, we'd love to be able to thank them properly and let them know how their gift can help. Your local Legacy and In Memory Lead is the person to speak to.
How do I pay a gift that has been left to Marie Curie?
We administer all legacies centrally at our London Head Office, so please get in touch if you have a gift that you need to pay in or have any questions. If paying in a gift, you will receive a receipt confirming payment.

Is there recommended wording for the Will?
Yes, we have suggested wording that may be of help.
Many people choose to include a residuary gift: a percentage of what is left of their estate once they have provided for your loved ones, because it ensures that their gift does not lose its value over time.
To include a share of an estate (a residuary gift):
I give to Marie Curie of One Embassy Gardens, 8 Viaduct Gardens, London SW11 7BW, registered charity numbers 207994 and SC038731 [all/ __% of the residue] of my estate absolutely for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Legacy Administration Manager or other proper officer at Marie Curie for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executor(s).
To include a cash gift (a pecuniary gift):
I give to Marie Curie of One Embassy Gardens, 8 Viaduct Gardens, London SW11 7BW, registered charity numbers 207994 and SC038731 the sum of [X£ specify words and figures] free of tax for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Legacy Administration Manager or other proper officer at Marie Curie for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executor(s).
Alternatively, contact your local Legacy and In Memory Lead who will be happy to talk you through it.
Can gifts be restricted to a particular area or location?
There may be a particular area or service which has a special significance for you, or the person you're helping. If that's the case, we can give you details of how to allocate a gift to a specific area.
If you wish for your gift to contribute to the funding of that service, please make this wish clear within the Will. Contact your local Legacy and In Memory Lead to discuss how we can best honour your wish and we will provide you with suggested wording for the Will.
