Meet Cherry

Share
When Cherry Robinson was made redundant, she decided she wanted to do something really worthwhile with her time, so she became one of our shop volunteers in our Royston shop.
“I haven’t been here that long and I’m really enjoying it,” says Cherry, 68, who decided to volunteer after being made redundant last year. “It’s not like work – it’s so much fun! And because Royston is quite small, I see lots of familiar faces.”
Cherry was surprised that it was so straightforward to get involved – simply a case of going into the shop and filling out a couple of forms. And as volunteers choose their own hours, Cherry’s shifts at the shop fit in around her.
“I do three days a week, which is perfect for me as I have time for other things and can still see my friends,” she says. “It’s nice to be able to do something useful. I’d recommend it to everyone.”

Volunteer in a Marie Curie charity shop

With 130 Marie Curie stores across the UK, volunteering in your nearest store is a great way to gain retail experience, meet new people and support the local community.

Shop volunteers help with the day-to-day running of our stores, working as part of a small, friendly team for half a day or more a week. They’re involved in a wide range of roles like replenishing stock, processing transactions, and putting up eye-catching displays.
