Remit and roles

Remit of your fundraising group

By raising money as part of a Marie Curie fundraising group, we ask you to adopt the following remit:

  • take part in national fundraising campaigns such as Great Daffodil Appeal, Blooming Great Tea Party and other collections
  • organise your own local events and activities
  • represent Marie Curie in the community
  • support other Marie Curie fundraising initiatives such as regional fundraising events and legacy gifts

Roles in your fundraising group

Assigning roles within your group ensures that meetings and activities run smoothly and effectively, and helps members to understand who has what responsibilities.

Essential roles

  • Chairperson
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

Visit the resources page to download full role descriptions.

Although the group as a whole is responsible for organising the fundraising group’s activities, it may be helpful for individual members to take the lead on certain activities. For instance:

  • Organising collections
  • Making the most of the collection tin network
  • Organising the group’s own events
  • Promoting and volunteering at Marie Curie’s events
  • Cheque collections and public speaking
  • Publicising the group’s activities with the local media
  • Raising awareness of Marie Curie amongst funeral directors

Taking the lead on a specific activity may appeal to someone in the group who has a particular interest or skill in a certain area - eg public speaking, events or media relations.

Our partnership

As fundraising groups are part of Marie Curie, it is important to understand how your group and Marie Curie will work together. You'll find a full outline of our partnership commitments in chapter two of the Fundraising groups handbook.
