Training for Marie Curie Speakers
This training will help you develop your knowledge of Marie Curie and give you the confidence to talk about our work and answer questions.
There are three parts to your training, as laid out in the steps below. If you need guidance on anything else, such as handling cash donations or claiming expenses, your Community Fundraiser will do this with you in person.
Step 1 – "Telling the Marie Curie Story" digital book
You need to complete two online training modules and a short quiz. You don't need to do both at once, so grab a cup of tea and take your time. Please note the training contains a video with sound.
Module 1: Introduction to Marie Curie, "Telling the Marie Curie Story".
- A digital book which you need to read in full.
All our Marie Curie Speaker Volunteers are required to complete this training.
Step 2 – Online group training sessions
This online training is delivered on Microsoft Teams. You would attend a group training session with six people, with group discussions and tasks. Together we walk you through all aspects of delivering a talk, creating your talk, and how to utilise stories.
The training is divided into four training sessions. Each session lasts for 2-hour over four weeks. You will need to attend all four sessions.
Whether you are new to public speaking or have experience with public speaking, there is something in here to support all abilities.
Your community fundraiser will be able to update you on the training dates and can arrange for your place to be booked.
All our Marie Curie Speaker Volunteers are required to complete this training.
Step 3 – Do a practice talk, and observe a Marie Curie talk
Arrange to meet with your Community Fundraiser to give a mini practice talk to them and some other local volunteers.
Where there is a scheduled talk in your area talk planned in your area, you can come along and observe.
As well as a chance to practice your speaking skills, this is a great opportunity to meet other volunteers in your area. Remember, it's not a test! Just a chance for you to get a feel for speaking about Marie Curie.
Find tools to support your talk.
