Marie Curie Responds to Health Inequalities White Paper Being Scrapped

Rini Jones, Senior Policy and Research Manager at the end of life charity, Marie Curie, said:

"Failing to deliver the Health Inequalities White Paper will harm so many people with a terminal illness and their carers. People at the end of life are experiencing a lottery of care and support. Those most in need are losing out because of successive government failures to tackle systematic inequalities that emerge early in life.

"We welcome the commitment to joined-up and personalised care across the whole of a person's life, made by the Government when announcing its Major Conditions Strategy. But achieving this will require urgent and radical action to tackle health inequalities.

"Everyone should have the best possible care and support at the end of life. The reality now, however, is that people are having bad deaths because of their background and where they live."
