People with terminal illness still facing sky-high bills
Comment published
In response to news from Ofgem that the energy price cap will drop by £238 for the average household, Sam Royston, Director of Policy and Research at Marie Curie, said:
"For people living with a terminal illness this reduction will provide some much-needed relief, but the reality is many still face sky-high bills.
"People living with a terminal illness are particularly vulnerable to fuel poverty. Their higher energy needs, such as the need to keep the home warmer or the use of medical devices in the home, can lead to dramatic increases in energy bills.
"The government needs to do more to prevent people from dying in poverty. The government must act on its commitment and introduce a social tariff on energy prices for people living with a terminal illness. "
