Companions

Companion volunteers focus on what’s important to you and those close to you. They provide the emotional and practical support you want – over the phone, at home, or in hospital.

Companion over the phone

If you, or someone close to you, is terminally ill, you may need someone to talk to. Marie Curie’s free Companion over the phone service provides ongoing emotional support with the same trained volunteer each week, no matter where you live in the UK or whether you’ve accessed support from Marie Curie before.

You may have lots to say or very little. However you’re feeling, you can talk about it with a friendly, non-judgmental Marie Curie Companion.

Companion at home

Companions can offer you support in the comfort of your own home, for up to three hours each week. If you need to do something around the house, pick up something from the shops, or talk about how you're feeling, Marie Curie Companions will be right there alongside you.

They can also support you to take part in the activities you enjoy most, like cooking, playing card games and gardening. The service is entirely based around your needs. In certain areas, they can also support people in care homes.

Companion in hospital

For many, hospitals aren’t always the most friendly or comfortable places. If you’re in hospital, Marie Curie Companions take the time to be with you.

You might just want someone to talk to, if it’s quiet or if it’s busy. Companions meet you there.
