Volunteer in your local area

Find out what types of in-person volunteer roles are available at Marie Curie and learn more about how to apply.

Make a real difference in your community

Our in-person volunteer roles are a great opportunity to meet new people in your local area and gain meaningful experiences, all while supporting people living with a terminal illness and those close to them. From gardening and aromatherapy to event planning, the perfect volunteer opportunity is waiting.

Volunteering is a great way to find out more about Marie Curie and to really see what the charity is all about. It is also a part of my sister’s legacy. I feel proud to be involved with the charity today and it has given me more opportunity to share my experience with other people.

Become a Marie Curie Companion

Marie Curie Companions visit people living with a terminal illness in their own homes, offering companionship and support for up to three hours each week. That may involve having a chat over a cup of tea, making short trips to the shops and helping out with errands, or providing information on local services.

Companion volunteers receive extensive training before they start, and then ongoing support throughout their time volunteering.

Volunteer in a Marie Curie charity shop

With 130 Marie Curie stores across the UK, volunteering in your nearest store is a great way to gain retail experience, meet new people and support the local community.

Shop volunteers help with the day-to-day running of our stores, working as part of a small, friendly team for half a day or more a week. They’re involved in a wide range of roles like replenishing stock, processing transactions, and putting up eye-catching displays.

Become a fundraising volunteer

Fundraising volunteers dedicate their time and skills to raising vital funds for Marie Curie. They coordinate collections, support local fundraising groups, deliver fundraising materials, and make a difference in their local communities in countless other ways.

Volunteer at a Marie Curie Hospice

The support volunteers provide in our hospices is vital. Volunteers are involved in a range of areas and roles can include serving tea and coffee to visitors, gardening, catering, driving people we support to and from clinical appointments, reception duties, and more.

We also have complementary therapy roles for volunteers qualified in acupuncture, aromatherapy, massage, or Reiki.

It's really helped me to come back and volunteer in the hospice gardens after my mum died. And I feel I'm helping other people, because someone helped me when I was going through a difficult time.
