Banking
Marie Curie banks with National Westminster. You may also use Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland and Royal Bank of Scotland in Scotland. The charity’s financial year runs April 1 to March 30.
Your group will be asked to account for all money banked before each month’s end. This will ensure that your fundraising is recorded in the charity’s central database and its accounts closed down on a monthly basis.
You should never set up a bank account for your fundraising group.
Best banking practice
Here are some guidelines for best banking practice.
- Make yourself known with branch staff, particularly at busy fundraising periods such as the Great Daffodil Appeal.
- Be aware of your surroundings at all times and try to bank in daylight hours.
- Carry money in an inconspicuous bag like a rucksack so not to attract attention.
- Park as close to the bank as possible.
- If you feel there is a security risk or banking more than £2,500 in cash, make sure two people travel to the bank together.
Charity vouchers and credit card payments cannot be banked – only cash and cheques and postal orders.
